About Film

In southeast Estonia, in the darkness of traditional smoke sauna, a group of women from the Võro community come together to cleanse their bodies and share their stories. In observing sauna rituals, these women create space for each other as they each regain the strength they need to face the world outside. The camera seems to be part of the group as it respectfully and affectionately records the women sharing their experiences—some of these are beautiful, while others are traumatic. No subject is taboo as the women talk of the stillbirth of a child, sexual abuse, coming out, domestic violence, sickness and recovery.
