About Film

Italian countryside, around Tuscany, circa 1980. Arthur is a mysterious Englishman, who returns to his ramshackle home in the hills after serving a jail sentence. He’s a rogue archaeologist, part of a rowdy troupe of grave-robbing group known as tombaroli; they poke around the ruggedly magnificent rural terrain in search of Etruscan treasures. Arthur aims to pull off the big job that will finally make him and his friends rich: this is their Chimera. For the band of tombaroli, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, goes inside the earth in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.
